EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 SHARP 1793 S-9

LOT 181 1793 S-9 R2 Wreath Cent VF25. Sharpness VF35 but lightly burnished and recolored glossy light olive brown and chocolate with lighter brown in protected areas. There is a collection of very fine scratches in the field near the dentils before the neck and chin and several small nicks on the cheek and neck. Specks of dark verdigris or crud show in protected areas, but it takes a glass to see them. Sharply detailed and the eye appeal is quite nice in spite of the defects. Looks much better than the description might imply. M-LDS, Breen state VII, with die cracks and clash marks. The area under CA in AMERICA is swollen and the die is starting to fail in that area.

LOT 182 1793 S-9 R2 Wreath Cent F12+. Sharper but covered with fine granularity on all but the highpoints which are smooth. No verdigris and the only notable mark is a small, dull rim nick at the U in UNITED. Slightly glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter chocolate brown on the devices. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on the reverse. The date and legends are complete and clear.

Ex the Del Rio Collection

LOT 183 1793 S-12 R6- Liberty Cap, PCGS Good Detail, Tooled. Sharpness G6, perhaps a bit better on the reverse, but covered with fine to moderate roughness. No verdigris but there are two dull, old scratches below RI. The obverse was very lightly smoothed to minimize the roughness. Slightly glossy dark chocolate and steel brown. MDS, Breen state II, with strong swelling inside the wreath that nearly obliterates ONE CENT and some of the wreath. The date is dull but easily readable as are the legends outside the wreath. Our grade is net AG3. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 35486.98/47359642
