 DOUBLE STRUCK 1722 WOOD’S HIBERNIA HALFPENNY

LOT 68 1722 Wood’s Hibernia Halfpenny Martin 4.1-Bb.1 R5 PCGS graded XF45. Choice glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices on the reverse. Smooth and very attractive with just a light touch of friction on the devices. The only notable mark is a small planchet fissure in the dentils over the first G in GEORGIVS. This piece was struck two times. The first impression was centered on the planchet and the second was about 5% off center to K-1.5. Obvious evidence of the double strike is present on both sides. LDS with strong die cracks on the right side of the reverse. Superior to the Martin plate coin for the die state. Our grade is EF40+. The attribution, Double Struck error, and Sydney Martin Collection provenance are noted on the special PCGS label. 920817.45/47899672

LOT 69 1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny Nelson-4 R3 EF40. Attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel. Smooth with light wear and only trivial marks including a couple tiny rim nicks under the date and a couple more at BER. Later die state with a clearly defined rim cud under the date.
