EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 703 1801 S-216 R1 VG7. Slightly sharper but there is a rim dent at the second S in STATES. Otherwise smooth with only trivial contact marks. The strike on the obverse is uneven, weak on the upper left but normally struck on the lower right. The strike on the reverse is normal. The date is clear but LIBERTY is wearing into the rim. LDS.

LOT 707 1802 S-226 R3 VG8. Sharpness F12 but cleaned and retoned partly glossy dark steel brown. Reasonably smooth with microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas and only trivial contact marks. EDS. The cud break under the date is visible.

LOT 708 1802 S-227 R2 VG8. Sharpness F12 but there are myriad hairline scratches on the portrait and a few more inside the wreath. Spots or crud or verdigris show on both sides but most of the planchet is smooth. Mostly glossy reddish chocolate and steel brown. MDS with strong die clashmarks around the portrait.

LOT 704 1801 S-220 R3 Error Fraction 1/000 PCGS graded G4. Light steel brown with darker olive brown in protected areas. Covered with extremely fine roughness but void of notable marks or verdigris. EDS before any die cracks or cuds. The date and legends are all readable but not strong. Our grade is G4. The 1/000 feature is noted on the PCGS label. 1464.04/85750976

LOT 705 1801 S-224 R1 VG10. A couple points sharper but there are a couple minor rim bruises: one at LI and another below the fraction. A tiny planchet chip in the field before the face is the only other mark. Mostly glossy medium olive brown and chocolate with lighter brown on the devices. EDS. Nice for the grade.

LOT 709 1802 S-228 R2 Error Fraction 1/000 VG7. Sharpness F12 but dull and covered with fine granularity. No verdigris but there is a splash of dark waxy crud at RTY. The only contact marks are a dull rim nick left of the date and a thin nick at the top of the wreath. MDS with die cracks on the reverse. The date and opposing TES are weak but readable due to an uneven strike; everything else is clear.
