LOT 692 1798 S-185 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair G5. Slightly sharper, particularly on the reverse, but covered with tiny nicks and there are traces of glue stuck to the reverse. Partly glossy steel and olive brown. TDS, Breen state VIII, with a cud break at RIC and die cracks on the obverse. The date and legends are easily readable, but the globs of glue are a distraction.

LOT 688 1798 S-167 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair VG8. Sharpness VF25 but dark and covered with moderate granularity. No marks but there are traces of shallow verdigris in protected areas. Dark olive brown and steel, nearly black. The date and legends are complete and clear. M-LDS with die cracks on the obverse.

LOT 693 1798 S-186 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VG10. Sharpness VF20 but dark and covered with very fine granularity. No verdigris and the only mark is a small planchet fissure on the edge at the A in STATES, as struck. Frosty dark gray and steel, nearly black. M-LDS with die cracks on both sides and a cud break connecting the two 0’s in the denominator to the rim below. The date and legends are clear.

LOT 689 1798 S-178 R5 Style II Hair, Reverse of 1796 Basal State-1+. The obverse is slightly better, the reverse weaker. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Mostly smooth with some old, light scratches on both sides. The date is clear and LIBERTY is weak but readable. The reverse is nearly slick but there are enough details remaining to identify the variety. Late die state with strong die cracks through the date.
