EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 470 1840 N-6 R1 ANACS graded MS64RB. Tan and brown with much mint red remaining. There is a light lamination star 8 to 9 and a tiny chip out of the rim at star 9. A pretty cent with 40% mint red on the obverse and 30% on the reverse. Our grade MS64+ net MS63+ LDS. 7462433



LOT 471 1842 N-2 R1 Large Date EF45. Choice glossy medium brown with mint frost in the fields and protected areas. Just light wear and trivial marks including a small spot of darker brown toning in the dentils right of star 9. EDS but not quite the earliest, state b, with fine lines from the dentils under the date and below star 13 and myriad fine die lines around ONE CENT. The earlier die lines at ERI are gone.



LOT 473 1842 N-7 R3+ Large Date MS60. Slightly faded mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints with nearly a third of the planchet showing mint color. Overtones of violet and light bluish steel show on the reverse, mostly on the right side. This cent is nearly flawless except for an obvious planchet lamination flaw in the dentils from star 2 to star 3 (as struck). MDS, die state b. The points up from the top of the E in AMERICA are gone but the segmented line under ME is clear. Softly struck at the hair over the ear, the hair buns, and the shoulder, all normal for this variety. A nice cent in spite of the planchet defect. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. Comes with an important provenance.

LOT 472 1842 N-5 R3+ Large Date EF45. Glossy medium brown with mint frost in protected areas. Just a bit of friction on the highpoints. The notable marks are a nick on the jaw and another hidden in the hair right of the ear lobe. E-MDS, die state a late. The die lines from the dentils right of star 12 are faint but the point down from the bottom of the E in CENT is still clear. A nice cent.
