EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 396 1809 S-280 R2 NGC UNC Details, Improperly Cleaned. A sharp, attractive cent but it was lightly cleaned. Now nicely retoned frosty medium olive brown and bluish steel. The only mark is a tiny planchet void right of the second S in STATES (as struck). M-LDS, Breen state VII, with several die cracks at the top of the reverse. Our grade is AU50+ net EF45+. An impressive example of this tough date in spite of the recoloring, and it comes with an important provenance. 2038619 001 Ex Henry C. Hines-Dr. William H. Sheldon-Dorothy I. Eckberg, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 5/31/2015:226 (includes the last lot ticket)

LOT 397 1809 S-280 R2 VG10. Slightly sharper with too many small contact marks for the higher grade. The only notable mark is a minor rim bruise between stars 4 & 5. Rather glossy medium brown and light chocolate. E-MDS, Breen state III. The date is bold and the legends are clear.

LOT 399 1810/09 S-281 R1 Overdate 10 over 09 ANACS EF40 Details, Scratched. Frosty light olive and steel brown with mint luster covering the fields and protected areas, especially on the reverse. Tiny peeps of faded mint red can be found tucked around some of the stars on the left side of the obverse. Would be a great cent if not for myriad hairline scratches, mostly on the left side of the obverse but some are on the portrait. Later die state with flowlined fields. Our grade is EF40+ sharpness net VF20. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 5027666

LOT 398 1810/09 S-281 R1 Overdate 10 over 09, PCGS graded XF40, CAC Approved. Frosty light chocolate with lighter brown in the fields and protected areas. Smooth with light wear on the devices and only trivial marks. A couple tiny ticks under the 0 in the date and a small puff of reddish chocolate toning on the first A in AMERICA can help identify this cent. MDS, Breen state III, with sharp dentils on both sides and die clashmarks inside the wreath. Struck from slightly misaligned dies with the obverse off to K-10 and the reverse to K-12. Only the dentils were affected. The overdate feature is obvious. Our grade is VF30. 1552.40/27802387

LOT 400 1810 S-285 R2 VG10. Glossy dark olive brown with lighter brown toning on some of the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth but there are a few small marks including a minor rim bruise below the 10, a few faint hairline scratches on the face, and a couple marks at the N in ONE and E in CENT. M-LDS, Breen state III. The dentils are gone on both sides.
