INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024

LOT 368 1803 S-257 R2 Large Fraction VF25. Five points sharper but there are microscopic hairlines in the obverse fields, all very well hidden in the toning. Otherwise choice with excellent eye appeal. The best identifying feature of this cent is an incipient planchet clip off the upper end of the hair ribbon (viewed best from the reverse). M-LDS, Breen state V, with numerous die cracks and the die failing at STA. Struck slightly off center to K-7 affecting the dentils.

LOT 365 1803 S-253 R2 VF25. Sharpness EF45 but the obverse was lightly smoothed and there are a few light scratches on the obverse, mostly in the field behind the portrait. Light olive brown and steel. The obverse is very glossy while the reverse is frosty but relatively dull. Rare EDS, Breen state I, with no die cracks.

LOT 369 1803 S-258 R1 Small Date, Large Fraction F15. Sharpness VF30 but lightly burnished. Beautifully retoned glossy medium steel brown. Very smooth. There are about a dozen microscopic pin pricks hidden in the hair, a thin nick left of the forehead, and a strong scrape at IT in UNITED. LDS, Breen state IV, with a die crack under the hair ribbon and a bulge left of the lower curls.

LOT 366 1803 S-253 R2 VF25. Sharpness EF45 but covered with fine granularity under slightly glossy olive brown toning. Traces of very light greenish verdigris show in protected areas. A dull scratch over the date and a lighter one in the field off the lower end of the hair ribbon are the notable marks. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on the reverse and swelling at STATE.

LOT 370 1803 S-259 R4 Small Date, Large Fraction F15+. Sharpness EF40 but there are areas of fine roughness on both sides, strongest off the lower curls. There are traces of reddish brown scale in the field below the hair ribbon and some dull contact marks on the face and in the field to the right. Slightly glossy steel brown and chocolate with darker reddish brown and chocolate on the left side of the obverse. Traces of tan show in protected areas on the reverse. EDS, Breen state I, with a trace of a die crack at STA. Great detail for this tough variety.

LOT 367 1803 S-255 R1 F12. Rather glossy light chocolate and steel brown. Minor marks including a light rim bruise at BE and a shallow planchet void left of the L in LIBERTY. EDS, Breen state I, without any die cracks.
