LOT 331 1801 S-221 R2 Corrected Denominator 100/000 NGC XF Details, Environmental Damage. Rather glossy chocolate and steel brown blending to olive brown in protected areas. Most of the planchet is decent, particularly on the reverse, but there are traces of fine roughness and spots of verdigris scattered over the obverse. The notable contact marks are some tiny scratches in the field before the face and more over the bust. Sharply struck EDS, Breen state I, before any crumbling in the dentils. The Corrected Denominator feature is clear to the unaided eye. Our grade is VF30+ sharpness net F15+. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 6685626-007

 VERY RARE 1801 NC-3

LOT 332 1801 NC-3 R6+ Error Fraction 1/000 PCGS graded G4. Mostly smooth but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris, and the only marks are a thin nick on the second 1 in the date and a small planchet lamination flake at the top of NT in CENT (as struck). Mostly glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The date is strong, the Error Fraction feature is clear, and the legends are easily readable. A decent example of this very rare die variety. Graded G4 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census (which we think is a bit too conservative). Our grade is G5. The finest in the Bland and Noyes census lists grades only net VG8 so waiting for a high grade example would be frustrating.
