LOT 219 1798 S-163 R4 Small 8, Style I Hair VG10 Sharpness F12 but a bit dull from uniform microscopic granularity. No verdigris and just a few trivial marks including a minor rim bruise right of the date, another right of the bust, and a diagonal hairline in the field below the hair ribbon. Slightly glossy olive brown and steel. MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks at the date and a very slightly sunken retained cud under the 17. The date is strong and the legends are clear. $350

1798 S-164 R4 Small 8, Style I Hair VG8 A couple points sharper but lightly cleaned and retoned medium brown with chocolate in protected areas and a spot of dark toning at the throat. Only minor contact marks, the notable ones being a scratch under the hair ribbon and a tiny rim nick at the R in AMERICA. EDS, Breen state I, with just a hint of swelling above the bust tip. The date is strong. $500
