S-142 EX PROSKEY-HINES-SHELDON
LOT 189 1797 S-142 R5+ F15 At least 10 points sharper with some obvious contact marks on otherwise attractive surfaces. The notable marks are a short scratch in the field before the neck, a couple rim nicks at NI in UNITED, and a rim bruise at ST in STATES. The surfaces are smooth except for a bit of minor roughness at RTY. Glossy light reddish brown and chocolate with steel brown toning on the highpoints. EDS, Breen state I, before any die rust on the obverse. A minor planchet clip is barely visible over LIB (as struck). This is the Breen plate coin for the variety and is considered to be the discovery coin for the variety. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF25 net VG10 and tied for CC#5, his photo #23927. Comes with an impressive provenance. $3,500
