Torres Half Cent Collection

LOT 16 1795 C-2a R3 Punctuated Date, Lettered Edge, Thick Planchet, AU58 Brown NGC. Choice glossy light to medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Sharply struck with mint frost in protected areas showing just a light touch of friction on the highpoints. Just trivial marks including a speck of very fine carbon at the dentils right of the chin and a tiny scratch off the end of a curl below the cap. Very rare MDS, Manley state 2.0, Fuhrman state 2, with a subtle bulge in the field before the face and swelling through ER in AMERICA. The fields on the obverse are hard and very slightly reflective while the fields on the reverse show microscopic lumps from die rust that occurred during the earlier C-1 marriage. Our grade is AU50. A beautiful, condition census example of the Punctuated Date type, and it comes with a very nice provenance. Weight 107.4 grains. (The front of the holder is scuffed.) 6678324-003 $35,000 Ex John L.
