Torres Half Cent Collection

LOT 13

1794 C-9 R2 Liberty Cap, High Relief Head Right, VF35 PCGS. Choice glossy brown and chocolate. Smooth with light wear and minor contact marks including a few small ticks on the jaw, cheek, and forehead. A very tiny tick at the right foot of the first T in STATES can help identify this piece. MDS, Manley state 2.0, Fuhrman state 2, with a clear die crack from the dentils to the middle of the cap, but the small rim cud left of the fraction has not formed. A premium mid-grade example of the High Relief Head type. Our grade is VF30. (The reverse of the holder is scuffed.) 1003.35/25276949 $6,500 Ex Chris McCawley 7/22/2014-The J. LOT 14 1794 C-9 R2 Liberty Cap, High Relief Head Right, MS62 Brown PCGS. Very attractive frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The planchet is smooth except for some microscopic planchet chips near the rims and traces of fine die rust (tiny lumps on the coin) on the obverse. Has the eye appeal of a mint state half cent but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only mark of any significance is a light diagonal scratch from the top of the T in CENT to the field under the first A in AMERICA where it fades away. LDS, Manley die state 3.0, Fuhrman state 3, with a clear die crack from the rim into the center of the cap and a narrow rim cud left of the fraction. This is the Manley plate coin for his die state 3.0. Noyes graded AU55, his photo #10879. Our grade is net AU50. A very nice example of the High Relief Head type. 1003.62/46516650 $37,500 Ex Chris McCawley 6/2/2023-The J. Torres Collection of Half Cents
