1087 Herodian. Herod I, ‘the Great’ (40-4 BC). Æ Eight Prutot (5.99 g, 23mm), dated RY 3 (38/7 BC). Mint in Samaria (Sebaste?) . Military helmet, viewed from the front, acanthus leaf around, with cheek pieces and straps, surmounted by a star flanked by palm fronds. Reverse: HPΩΔOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ, Tripod, ceremonial bow – lebes above, date LΓ at left, monogram at right. Meshorer 44; Hendon 6204; HGC 10, 651; DCA 804. Earthen green hues. Very Fine.
