Terry Denman Collection of Middle Dates Part 1
THE TERRY DENMAN COLLECTION
SUPERBLY PEDIGREED N-5
LOT 100 1822 N-5 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved . Choice lustrous light olive an steel brown with lighter brown and tan in protected areas and subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Satiny mint frost covers this cent, even the highpoints, and the eye appeal of this cent is superb. A vertical nick on the jaw over the throat, a line of tiny ticks right of the E in ONE, and some more under the end of the wreath ribbon are the only notable marks. EDS, die state a. The fields are smooth, the dentils are sharp, and the center dot on the reverse is strong. Clashmarks from the ear are visible just right of that center dot. A great cent in every respect. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#4 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #20899. Our grade is MS63 and tied for CC#1 in our opinion (we sold the other MS63 piece in our sale of the Naftzger collection with the Goldbergs, 2/1/2009:126). 36724.63/30808775 Ex Peter Mougey, Thomas L. LOT 101 1822 N-6 R3 PCGS graded MS62 Brown . Frosty bluish steel brown with lighter brown toning covering most of the reverse. Looks mint state but there is a hint of of rub on the highest points and a swipe of extremely fine roughness over the E in ONE. Otherwise this cent is choice. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The dentils are sharp around both sides and the partial inner circle from star 1 to star 8 is clear. The reverse shows extensive doubling from die bounce, with some places showing sharp multiple outlines. Called MS60 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #39101. Our grade is AU58. 36727.62/15112696
