Terry Denman Collection of Middle Dates Part 1

THE TERRY DENMAN COLLECTION

LOT 96 1822 N-1 R3 AU58 . Frosty steel brown and light chocolate with hints of very faded mint color in a few of the protected areas on the reverse. The fields are lustrous and there is just the faintest trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with smooth, slightly reflective fields and no lumps from die rust on the reverse. A premium example of a variety that’s difficult to find in high grade, this one near the lower end of the condition census.

LOT 97 1822 N-2 R3 MS60+ . Lustrous tan and light olive with steel brown on the cheek and traces of faded mint red showing on both sides. Satiny and very attractive, nearly flawless. A speck of darker toning (not carbon) midway between stars 1 & 2 is the best identifying mark. E-MDS, die state b, with lightly flowlined fields and the usual die crack at stars 7-12, but the die line at S-O is clear.
