EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 FINEST 1819 N-5 EX NAFTZGER

LOT 69 1819 N-5 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Attractive lustrous light to medium brown. This cent has solid mint state eye appeal, but a glass reveals a very light touch of rub on the very highest points of the devices. Nearly flawless but there are a couple microscopic ticks just right of the eye, a tiny wisp of darker toning in the field right of the main curl, and similar darker chocolate toning at the tops of the I and E in UNITED. LDS, die state b, with microscopic die flowlines covering the obverse fields creating attractive cartwheel luster. This is the Newcomb plate coin for the variety (Plate II, Obverse 5-6, Reverse C). Called MS60 and finest confirmed of the variety in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 and tied for CC#1. Our grade is AU58, very close to MS60. 36640.64/13094640

LOT 70 1819 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS62 Brown . Lustrous light brown with a few small puffs of slightly darker steel brown on the obverse and subtle hints of light bluish steel overtone in protected areas, especially on the reverse. This cent has mint state eye appeal but there is a trace of friction on the highest points of the portrait. The only notable mark is a small, dull nick between star 4 and the forehead. LDS, die state b, with microscopic flowlines in the fields and missing dentils on the upper part of the reverse. Struck with the reverse rotated 30 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is AU58 (the reverse is MS60). 1606.62/18024892
