Terry Denman Collection of Middle Dates Part 1
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 6 1816 N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Glossy medium chocolate brown delicately mottled with tan and lighter brown, mostly on the reverse. Mint frost covers the protected areas and this cent has very nice eye appeal. Essentially void of marks or other defects. A spot of lighter brown toning midway between the date and star 13 and a tiny rim nick left of star 6 can help identify this cent. E-MDS, die state b. The lump under the first 1 and dash at CA are dull but visible. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #22131. Our grade is MS60. 36532.63/30809059

LOT 7 1816 N-5 R3 PCGS graded MS65 Brown . Lustrous light to medium steel brown, the reverse a few shades lighter than the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. This cent is virtually flawless except for some microscopic specks of darker bluish steel toning on both sides and a minor planchet lamination at the dentils over the left side of the M in AMERICA (as struck). A small spot of the darker steel toning at the right foot of the E in CENT is a good identifying mark. M-LDS, die state c, with flowlined fields and many of the dentils weak or missing. The die lines covering the neck are gone and the repunching at the bottom of the N in CENT is nearly gone. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says Mint State netted to AU55 for the tiny planchet lamination, his photo #35265. Our grade is MS60+, but the MS65 grade assigned by PCGS attests to the exceptional eye appeal this cent offers. 36535.65/13092870 Ex Dr. George P. French, B. Max Mehl 1929 FPL, lot 378A-T.
