EQUAL SECOND FINEST 1848 N-29 WITH CUDS
LOT 362 1848 N-29 R3- VF30. Slightly sharper but there several splashes of darker reddish brown toning on the obverse. Otherwise the toning is an attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. No notable contact marks. Very rare LDS, die state d, with strong rim cud break from below the end of the wreath ribbon to over UN in UNITED. Only a dozen of this die state are known and this piece is tied for CC#2 of that group in the Grellman census. Noyes photo #30195.

LOT 365 1848 N-35 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Glossy light olive and medium brown with frosty mint luster covering the fields and protected areas. Generous traces of mint red remain on both sides. A swipe of reddish chocolate brown toning at star 12 and a small spot of similar toning on the end of the chin are the notable marks. Well struck E-MDS, die state a. The spike from the hair above the I in LIBERTY is sharp and the fields are smooth with microscopic radial die flowlines. Our grade is MS60. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 406528.63/30106583
LOT 363 1848 N-31 R2+ PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light to medium brown blending to light olive brown. There a few tiny peeps of faded mint color on the obverse and generous traces of brighter mint color showing on the reverse. Satiny and sharply struck with excellent eye appeal. A couple microscopic specks of carbon at the CE in CENT are the only notable defects. E-MDS, die state b. The tops of the C & E in CENT are connected by crumbling but there is no crumbling in the dentils over the R in AMERICA. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census. 1883.65/03795180
