LOT 355 1848 N-17 R1 Repunched Date, ANACS graded EF45. Glossy light to medium brown blending to light chocolate on the reverse. Smooth and very attractive with trivial marks and light wear. MDS, die state b. The repunching on the date is clearly visible on the 4 but gone on the other 3 digits. Our grade is EF40. LOT 356 1848 N-18 R4+ PCGS graded AU55. Frosty steel brown with faint puffs of slightly darker steel brown toning on the obverse. Traces of mint red can be found on both sides. There are a few small ticks on the cheek and a spot of slightly darker toning in the dentils over the N in UNITED. Close to mint state with just a touch of friction on the highest points of the portrait. MDS, die state b. Crumbling joins the C & E in CENT but the obverse die is uncracked. Our grade is AU50, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. 1883.55/38593459

LOT 357 1848 N-18 R4+ PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Attractive frosty light brown and tan with light steel brown toning on the highpoints. Satiny and attractive with a few barely visible contact marks. A dull, faint mark shows above the right top of the second 8, and another even smaller one is close under the first 8, and a light scratch skips across TES-OF. Otherwise this cent is choice, and the eye appeal is excellent. There is a shallow low spot at star 11 and another under the ear (as struck). M-LDS, die state c. A clear die crack extends from the dentils over star 11 to the main curl. Our grade is AU50. Tied for CC#3 overall for the variety but finest of about two dozen known with the single obverse die crack. Comes with a nice provenance.
