LOT 172 1798 S-166 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded XF45. Choice glossy chocolate brown and lighter steel brown with frosty light golden brown and tan faded down from mint color in protected areas on the reverse. The only defect is a small planchet void at the top of the E in LIBERTY, as struck. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with three small but well-defined rim cud breaks at TA in STATES. Struck with the reverse rotated 30 degrees CCW from the normal head-to-foot die orientation. A very attractive example of an otherwise common die variety. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#20 in the Noyes census, his photo #39323. Our grade is EF40+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36068.45/15699493
LOT 170 Pair of 1798 Cents with Style I Hair & Small 8. Includes S-161 R2 E-MDS F15 net VG7 for corrosion, and S-164 R4 VF30 net VG10 for a dent and fine scratches. Both have a strong date. Lot of 2 coins.

LOT 173 1798 S-167 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded XF45. Frosty medium steel brown and light chocolate. Smooth and nearly flawless, just lightly worn on the devices. A dull, light diagonal nick off the chin is the best identifying mark. M-LDS, Breen state V early, with the obverse crack over the ear to under the ribbon but before the rim cud at the first T in STATES. Graded VF30 by Noyes, his photo #63147. LOT 171 1798 S-165 R4 Large 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded VG10. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Smooth with trivial marks including a shallow planchet flake in the field off the chin and a couple small nicks on the neck. Struck slightly off center to the bottom causing some weakness at the bottom of the date and top of the reverse. EDS, Breen state I, with an uncracked reverse. Our grade is VG10+. 1434.10/25638040
