LOT 92 1787 New Jersey Maris 38-Y R3 NGC graded VF20. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth and attractive with trivial defects. A light diagonal scratch in the field before the chest of the horse and a few tiny planchet flakes near the rims are the only notable defects. There are two minor planchet clips: one at the top of the obverse and an even smaller one right of the M in UNUM. The date and legends are complete and clear. Nice for the grade, and it comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Partrick Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label. 5746976-019

LOT 93 1787 New Jersey Maris 54-k R3 “Serpent Head,” PCGS graded VF25. Glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. Smooth with a few minor marks including a fine diagonal scratch through the V in NOVA, a tiny rim nick left of the date, and a couple small scratches in the left center of the shield. The date is complete and clear as are the legends except for weakness left of the shield thanks to swelling in that area. The “Serpent Head” feature and Syd Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 518.25/34176358

 NEW JERSEY OVER CONNECTICUT

LOT 94 1787 New Jersey Maris 56-n R1 “Camel Head,” PCGS graded VF25. Glossy olive and dark steel brown. Smooth with trivial defects including a speck of reddish planchet impurity on the left edge of the shield (as struck). The date is clear as are most of the legends, but portions are missing because this New Jersey was struck over a Connecticut with a Mailed Bust Left obverse. AUCTORI from the Connecticut is readable along the right side of the obverse and portions of the Mailed Bust are impressed into the horse’s head. The undertype on the reverse is not as clear. The overstruck feature is not noted on the PCGS label but the “Camel Head” is mentioned. 515.25/43119815

LOT 95 1787 New Jersey Maris 63-s R2 NGC graded VF20. A “Sprig Above Plow” type. Rather glossy light olive and steel brown. The highpoints are smooth but the fields and protected areas are granular. No verdigris. There are a few marks including a scrape on the plow above the second 7, a rim nick over the N in NOVA, and a few more at the E left of the shield. The date and legends are all strong. 3309955-011
