EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 527 1844/81 N-2 R2 44 over Inverted 18 VF30. Ten points sharper but there are some small nicks on the obverse and traces of shallow verdigris in protected areas at the bottom of the wreath. Otherwise nice with smooth surfaces and sharp details. Glossy light to medium brown with some darker chocolate on the reverse. EDS. The overdate feature is strong. Ex William C. Noyes-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
LOT 526 Pair of Cents, 1842 & 1856 grading VF25. Includes 1842 N-6 R1 MDS, and 1856 N-7 R2 Upright 56 EDS. Both are choice glossy brown and chocolate with light wear and nice eye appeal. Lot of 2 coins From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
TERMINAL STATE 1847 N-18
LOT 528 1847/47 N-18 R5 Large 7 over Medium 7 F12. Significantly sharper but there are a few notable contact marks including a sharp nick on the jaw, a small rim dent at star 12, and a strong nick on the E in CENT. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and the toning is glossy chocolate and steel. Terminal die state, state d, with strong rim cud break from the date to star 2 and from star 4 to star 5. The cud breaks are clearly defined and the so-called “Large 7 over Medium 7” feature is clear (actually just a repunched 47). Ex Herb Brunhofer-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
LOT 530 1847 N-38 R1 AU50. Choice glossy light to medium brown with mint frost in protected areas. Smooth and very attractive with light friction on the devices. LDS, die state d (Newcomb’s old #16) Ex Thomas D. Reynolds-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Reynolds sales envelope)
LOT 529 Pair of 1847/47 N-31 R5 grading VF25 and VF20. Both are slightly sharper with minor defects. One is slightly glossy steel brown; the other is attractive glossy medium brown. The Repunched 47 feature is obvious on both pieces. Lot of 2 coins. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
