SESSION TWO SELECTIONS FROM FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION  RARE TERMINAL N-13

LOT 485 1835 N-13 R4 Small 8 & Stars G5. Glossy light to medium brown. Evenly worn with light contact marks. Nice for the grade. Extremely rare TDS, die state h, with a retained cud break at stars 4-6 touching star 5. The cud is raised most over star 4 and is sunken the most at star 6. Only a half dozen in this die state are known to us, and the finest graded F15. The cud break on this

CLIPPED PLANCHET

LOT 486 1835 N-16 R2 Head of 1836 F15. Sharpness VF30 with fine roughness and verdigris, mostly on the obverse. Slightly glossy dark olive and steel. MDS. There is a curved planchet clip affecting the dentils at star 9 and the opposing one at IC in AMERICA. The opposing dentils at stars 1-2 are very weak, an effect that occurs opposite a planchet clip.  From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 488 1836 N-2 R2 VF20ouple small ticks before the brow and a tick left of star 5 are the only notable marks. TDS, die state h, with strong die cracks on the obverse and a cud break below the 83 that touches the bottom of the 8.. Significantly sharper but covered with very fine roughness. The obverse is glossy, the reverse dull, and the toning is dark olive brown and steel. E-MDS, die state c, with die cracks on the reverse but before the short bar forms on the right bottom of the T in CENT. Ex Dean Johnson 1976-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 487 1835 N-19 R5 Head of 1836 VG10. Sharpness VF30 but covered with fine granularity, and there are patches of stronger corrosion at the top of the head and below CEN. The only contact marks are a scrape below the date that significantly weakens the lower half of the 183. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown highpoints.
