 N-11 WITH RETAINED CUD

LOT 482 1835 N-11 R4+ Small 8 & Stars F15+. Sharpness VF25 with some notable contact marks including a small rim bruise under the date, a diagonal nick off the chin, a few very light rim bruises on the reverse, and a diagonal nick left of the first S in STATES. Mostly glossy dark steel and olive brown. M-LDS, die state c, with a raised retained cud break from the U to under the ribbon loop. The cud is raised more on the end above the U.  From the Fred H. LOT 483 1835 N-12 R4 Small 8 & Stars VF25+. Slightly sharper choice surfaces and color except for three small spots of darker toning on the obverse: one on the throat, another smaller one at the end of the bust, and an even smaller one right of star 5. Each spot has a speck of verdigris in the center. Otherwise glossy uniform light brown with slightly darker brown on the highpoints. Only the spot on the throat catches your eye. Lightly worn and sharply struck. EDS, die state a, without the additional crack from star 9 to the dentils. Ex Fred H. Clymer-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 484 1835 N-13 R4 Small 8 & Stars VF20. Ten points sharper with microscopic granularity under partly glossy dark olive brown and steel. No marks but there are traces of fine verdigris tucked into protected areas. M-LDS, die state f, with narrow but clearly defined rim cuds at D-ST. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
