SESSION TWO SELECTIONS FROM FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 

BOLD DOUBLE PROFILE

LOT 468 1833 N-6 R1 EF45. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate with mint frost in the protected areas. Smooth with light friction on the devices and great eye appeal. A small puff of slightly darker steel brown toning between star 1 and the jaw is the best identifying mark. MDS, die state b, with two parallel cracks through the bottom of the N in UNITED. There is a bold double profile from the forehead down to the chin with additional doubling on the upper part of the coronet and most of LIBERTY.  Ex Shultz 12/1/1936-Fred H. Clymer 10/25/1991-Fred H. LOT 469 1834 N-1 R1 Small 8, Large Stars VF35. Significantly sharper with very little wear but there are traces of fine verdigris on otherwise smooth, glossy surfaces. The microscopic roughness and verdigris are in a swipe from the date to star 2 and between star 9 and the dentils. Glossy chocolate and olive with very dark olive and steel on the reverse. A small nick under the eye is the only notable contact mark. M-LDS, die state c, with crumbling on the right side of star 4. A sharp cent but not very attractive for a

 BOLD DOUBLE PROFILE

LOT 470 1834 N-1 R1 Small 8, Large Stars EF45. Very attractive glossy tan with mint frost covering the fields and protected areas. Would rate a slightly higher grade but there is a fine scratch in the field off the end of the nose. The scratch is easily missed and this cent has very nice eye appeal. M-LDS, die state c. There is crumbling on the right side of star 4 and the repunching inside the bottom of the C in AMERICA is visible. Struck with a bold double profile from the forehead down to the chin.
