LOT 463 1831 N-11 R2 Medium Letters VF35. Glossy tan with steel brown toning on the highpoints and mint frost in protected areas. Would rate a higher grade but there is a stain at stars 10-13 with specks of verdigris in protected areas within the stain. You need a glass to see the verdigris. Free of notable contact marks. TDS, die state g, with a cud break at TES, and the upper half of the S is filled by the cud. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 464 1831 N-12 R1 Large Letters F15. Ten points sharper with smooth surfaces and attractive toning, but there are several fine scratches on both sides. Glossy light to medium brown and chocolate. EDS but not quite the earliest, die state c, with a fine radial crack to the dentils from the earlier crack right of the date. Portions of the profile and several of the stars show doubling from die shift. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 466 1831 N-12/4 R4 (as a die state) VG8. A sharply detailed cent, perhaps VF25, but moderately corroded with a greenish patina on very dark olive brown surfaces. Looks like a cent that was lost in soil for an extended period of time. Fortunately the date and devices are complete, even strong. Terminal die state, state j, with a “Harpooned Whale” cud break that consumes five points of star 13 and three of star 12. A rare and very popular die state with one of the largest cud breaks in the entire series of US Large Cents. Ex an unrecorded source 7/18/1980 in Washington, DC-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 465 1831 N-12/1 R2 (as a die state) VF25. Ten points sharper with too many nicks for the sharpness grade. None of the marks is significant but there are too many for the sharpness grade. Glossy medium brown and steel blending to light chocolate in protected areas. MDS, die state f, with a cud break that connects the lower two points of star 13 to the rim below. There is a double profile on the nose, lips, and chin plus several of the stars. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 467 1832 N-3 R1 Large Letters AU55. Very attractive lustrous tan and light brown with a puff of reddish brown toning at the dentils over star 12. There are microscopic traces of verdigris nestled between the dentils in the stained area. Looks mint state but there is a hint of rub on the very highest points of the hair. A choice cent if not for the small stain. The reverse is flawless. LDS, die state b, with minor
