SESSION TWO SELECTIONS FROM FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION
CONDITION CENSUS TERMINAL STATE N-5
LOT 432 1828 N-5 R2 VG10. Attractive glossy light to medium brown. Smooth and choice except for a collection of small but fresh ticks at ATE in STATES. Rare LDS, die state c, with a bold cud break at TED. Graded VG10 net VG8 and CC#2 of the die state in the Noyes census, his photo #39963. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
LOT 433 1828 N-8 R3 F15. Glossy dark olive brown with lighter steel brown on the devices. The highpoints are smooth but fine granularity covers the fields and protected areas. Otherwise this cent would rate a slightly higher grade. No verdigris and the only marks are a dull scuff under star 8 and a rim nick at star 10. MDS, die state b, with a relatively strong die crack from the dentils over I to TED. Ex Dean Johnson 6/1977-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
TERMINAL STATE N-8 EX STARR
LOT 434 1828 N-8 R3 VG8. Glossy medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Would rate a slightly higher grade but there are too many small contact marks for the higher grade. A tiny rim nick below the 1 may help identify this cent. Rare LDS, die state c, with a strong cud break connecting TED to the rim. Ex Floyd T. Starr, Stack’s 12/4/1984:1659-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
