SESSION TWO SELECTIONS FROM FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION

LOT 423 1827 N-8 R3 VF30. Sharpness near mint state with a sharp strike and very attractive toning, but there are numerous fine scratches in the fields on the obverse. The reverse is essentially flawless. A spot of darker reddish brown toning at the end of the nose can easily identify this cent. E-MDS with the usual die cracks on the obverse and a sharp inner circle at those dentil tips. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 419 1827 N-1 R2 VF25+. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Lightly worn with smooth surfaces and very nice eye appeal for the grade. Void of any notable marks. LDS, die state b, with a narrow but

clear rim cud at star 5 to star 6. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 420 1827 N-2 R3 VF30. Glossy steel brown with lighter brown in protected areas on the reverse. Smooth with just a few trivial marks including two light scratches over the E in ONE. MDS. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 424 1827 N-9 R3 VF30. A very sharp cent that has really nice eye appeal, but it was lightly whizzed and expertly retoned glossy chocolate and steel brown. Hints of lighter reddish brown show in protected areas of the reverse and the fields display false luster, a result of the whizzing. Just a few microscopic ticks, none notable. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with sharp dentils and the usual die cracks, but the radial crack from star 13 to the dentils has not formed. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 421 1827 N-5 R2 AU50. Sharpness close to mint state but lightly cleaned and retoned medium brown with sea-green overtones. There are traces of lighter brown in a few protected areas. The only mark is a thin nick over star 13. M-LDS, die state c, with a die crack down from the curl at star 13.to the dentils below. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 425 1827 N-10 R4+ F12+. Glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown and tan in the fields and protected areas. Smooth with trivial marks and great eye appeal for the grade. LOT 422 1827 N-6 R3 VF30. Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. A light nick on the chin is the only notable mark. M-LDS, die state d, with radial die cracks down from the earlier crack through the bottom of the date. Ex Pete Wesp 3/1984-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
