SESSION TWO SELECTIONS FROM FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION  DOUBLE STRUCK N-3

LOT 407 1825 N-3 R3 VF20. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate blending to darker chocolate and olive brown in protected areas. The only significant mark is an old scratch along the profile of the neck. E-MDS, die state a, without any die cracks. A very attractive cent in spite of the scratch (which is easily missed). In addition the reverse was struck twice on the reverse with a slight 5 degree clockwise rotation between the impressions. There is no trace of doubling on the obverse, but the doubling is clear on the reverse, particularly on ONE CENT. May have been an obverse brockage maker.  From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 408 1825 N-4 R3 EF40. Glossy light olive and steel brown with frost in protected areas. Just a few contact marks including a couple at the truncation and neck. The reverse is choice. MDS, die state b, with fine die cracks from the peak of the 1 clockwise through the stars to the base of the 5. Ex Russell Wyatt, Superior 9/30/1985:492-Fred H. Beymer Collection

LOT 409 1825 N-9 R2 VF25. Significantly sharper but fine granularity covers both sides under rather glossy olive brown and steel toning. No verdigris and the only mark is a shallow dig hidden on a leaf under the F in OF. E-MDS, die state a, before any die cracks. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection 

TERMINAL STATE 1825 N-10

LOT 410 1825 N-10 R3 F12. Glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. Smooth with a few contact marks including a dull rim nick at star 12. Rare TDS, die state d, with a small but strong cud break that consumes the outer point of star 7.  From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
