EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 THE DR. ALLENBURGER 1819/8

LOT 376 1819/8 N-1 R1 Overdate 9 over 8 AU58. Light brown with smooth, slightly reflective fields on both sides. Very sharply struck with great eye appeal, but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. Just trivial contact marks including a tiny diagonal tick left of the earlobe, a very thin nick in the field off the chin, and a dull tick over the inner part of the hair bun. EDS, die state a. The overdate feature is bold and fine repunching is also visible on both of the 1’s. Graded MS60+ by Del Bland. A really nice example of this popular “Redbook” overdate variety. LOT 377 1819/8 N-1 R1 Overdate 9 over 8 EF45. Choice glossy light to medium chocolate brown with frost in protected areas. Lightly worn and nearly flawless, a really nice cent. A pair of tiny planchet flakes right of star 13 are the best identifying marks. EDS, die state a but not as early as the preceding lot. The overdate is obvious but the repunching on the 1’s is no longer visible. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 378 1819 N-2 R1 Large Date EF45+. A sharp cent with just a light touch of friction on the devices, but this cent was lightly cleaned. Retoned glossy very light olive. The reverse is beautiful and the toning could pass as original, but there are lighter highlights in a few protected areas on the reverse. No marks. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The fields are smooth and the repunching on the 8 and 9 is sharp. Comes with a nice provenance.
