EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 357 1817 N-17 R4 VG10+. Glossy medium brown and chocolate mixed with darker olive brown on the reverse. Minor contact marks, none notable. EDS, die state b, with a fine die crack joining the bases of the D & adjacent ST, but the bisecting crack from the first A in AMERICA to the U in UNITED has not formed. From the Fred H. LOT 359 1817 N-17 R4 VG8. Rather glossy steel and olive brown with lighter steel brown on the devices. No notable marks, just worn. Rare TDS, die state j, with a raised cud break over TATE. LOT 358 1817 N-17 R4 VG7. Rather glossy steel brown and reddish chocolate. Slightly sharper, particularly on the reverse, but there are traces of fine verdigris in some protected areas and a speck of corrosion on a leaf below the N in UNITED. Otherwise just small contact marks consistent with the grade. Rare LDS, die state h, with a sunken retained cud over TATE. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 360 1818 N-1 R2 VF20+. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with light to moderate wear and a few small contact marks including two near star 4 and a minor rim bruise at NI in UNITED. M-LDS, die state c, with a clearly defined rim cud break from the top of star 2 to left of star 4. Struck with the reverse rotated 50 degrees CCW.  From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
