RARE LATE STATE N-12

LOT 353 1817 N-14 R1 AU55. Lustrous light reddish brown and chocolate. There are a few ticks on the chin and in the field to the left and a swipe of darker toning right of star 9. LDS, die state b, with weak and missing dentils (the usual Randall Hoard die state). From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 349 1817 N-12 R3 VG8. Glossy medium steel brown. Smooth and void of defects, just worn. Rare LDS, die state f, with a sunken retained cud from star 1 to star 3. From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 354 1817 N-14 R1 AU50. Glossy light to medium brown with a swipe of darker olive brown toning at the 17 and star 13. Mint frost covers the protected areas on both sides and there is light friction on the highpoints. No contact marks. LDS, die state b,

LOT 350 1817 N-13 R1 AU55. Lustrous steel brown and light olive delicately mottled with lighter tan and steel brown on the obverse. Satiny and sharp with just a hint of friction on the highpoints. The only defects are some microscopic planchet striations on the hair bun, and you need a glass to see them. LOT 355 1817 N-15 R4 VF20. Sharpness near VF35 but there is a deep scrape or delamination through the N in UNITED. Otherwise smooth and attractive; a small rim nick at the E in UNITED is the only additional mark. LDS, die state b, with a die crack through stars 1-3. Ex J. B. Boss 8/13/1934-Fred H. Clymer-Fred H. LOT 351 1817 N-13 R1 AU50+. Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate. Void of defects with very light friction on the highpoints. M-LDS, die state c. The dentils are relatively weak and the earlier die line connecting the bottoms of the I & C in AMERICA is gone. Ex James L. Corrado-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 356 1817 N-16 R1 15-Star Obverse AU50. Very attractive frosty chocolate and steel. Satiny with very light friction on the devices. The only notable mark is a diagonal nick in the field before the brow. LDS, die state c, with a rim cud at AM. The dash from the right top of the F is gone. LOT 352 1817 N-14 R1 MS60. Lustrous bluish steel brown and olive with traces of lighter reddish brown in some protected areas on the reverse. Satiny and attractive with the usual weakness on the outer part of the hair bun due to the later die state. LDS, die state b, with partial dentils on both sides (the usual Randall Hoard die state for the variety). From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
