TNA HOF Collection Pt 1
LOT 1172 1847 N-28 R4+ Repunched 4 EF45. Attractive glossy tan and light brown. Smooth with just a few marks including a small, dull rim nick at star 4 and another under the wreath ribbon. Otherwise essentially flawless. EDS, die state a. The reverse is uncracked and the repunching on the 4 is sharp.
LOT 1173 1847 N-28 R4+ Repunched 4 AU55. A sharp mint state cent that was lightly cleaned and retoned long ago, now a very attractive glossy light chocolate brown with hints of very faded red in protected areas. The eye appeal of this cent is excellent. No friction or notable marks of any type. MDS, die state c, with several fine die cracks around the top of the reverse legend and crumbling on the right top of the U in UNITED. The repunching on the 4 is dull but clear. Called AU55 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #31419. Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS64BN (PCGS label #37334.64/18900181 included, and it shows the attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance).

EQUAL FINEST KNOWN LATE STATE
LOT 1174 1847 N-28 R4+ Repunched 4 VF25+. Sharpness EF40 and the eye appeal is very nice, but the fields are covered with extremely fine roughness that is barely visible with a strong glass. No verdigris, just a few minor marks. There is a fine pinscratch from the dentils over star 6 down to star 3, plus a couple nicks on the chin and neck and some barely visible rim bruises on the right side of the obverse. Mostly glossy medium brown and chocolate. Extremely rare late die state, die state e, with a strong rim cud break over ATE. Tied for finest of only 6 known with this rim cud, and the cud is clearly defined on this example. Another very important prize for the die state specialist.
