EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1066 1844 N-5 R1 First 4 Repunched AU55. Frosty light olive with tiny peeps of mint red on the obverse. This cent has mint state eye appeal but there is a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. No notable defects. M-LDS, die state c, with die cracks on the reverse. The repunching at the top of the first 4 is clear. 

LOT 1068 1844 N-7 R2+ AU50. Glossy tan and light brown with darker steel brown on the highpoints. Slightly sharper with a few minor marks including a nick hidden in the hair over the left side of the ear and a tiny scratch under the left foot of the N in CENT. EDS, die state a, before the small lump formed under the hair bun.

LOT 1067 1844 N-6 R3 AU50+. Glossy light to medium brown and olive with satiny mint frost in protected areas. Smooth and sharp with great eye appeal and very little wear. A few tiny ticks in the field before the mouth are the only notable defects. E-MDS, die state b, with fine die cracks at MER. The die lines at the throat and neck are sharp. 

LOT 1069 1844 N-7 R2+ VF25. Sharpness AU50 but dark with crud and verdigris in protected areas. Partly glossy dark olive brown. A light scuff of hairlines across LIBERTY and the hair above are the notable marks. LDS, die state c, with a strong rim cud break at star 1.

LOT 1070 1845 N-1 R4 AU50. Frosty light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Satiny luster shows in protected areas and the only notable mark is a very light, barely visible rim bruise over star 8. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with fine but sharp lines from the dentils under star 1. Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census with only a single mint state example known. Removed from an NGC holder graded MS62BN (NGC label #3429311-001 included).
