OFF-CENTER 1835 N-5

LOT 257 1835 N-5 R2 Head of 1834, Small 8 & Stars G6. Slightly sharper where the devices were properly struck up but there are some fine scratches on the face, a nick on the neck, and microscopic specks of greenish verdigris on the reverse. Glossy medium brown with two streaks of chocolate on the obverse. Struck 35% off center to K-11. A dramatic mint error.

Ex Richard Picker Collection-Stack’s-Tony Terranova-Chris McCawley-McCawley & Grellman Auctions 9/13/1997:221 (lot ticket included)

LOT 258 1835 N-6 R1 Head of 1834, Small 8, NGC graded MS62 Brown. Frosty steel brown and light chocolate. The luster is subdued by a thin layer of oxidation and this cent has the look of a piece that has rested untouched in an envelope for many decades. The only marks are a couple specks of dark crud on the cheek and brow. MDS, Grellman state d, with a series of tiny rim cuds or crumbling in the dentils from star 1 to below the date. There is a fine double profile on the top of the coronet and on stars 5-7. Our grade is EF45. The attribution and Newman Collection provenance are noted on the special NGC label. 2046438-022

Ex Eric P. Newman Collection-Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions 11/14/2014:7147 (as AU50) (includes the Newman collection envelope and lot ticket)
