Rothchild Counterfeit Houston Money Show Auction January 20, 2024
LOT 78 1816 N-9 R4 AU50. Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. The fields and protected areas are lustrous and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The notable marks are a spot of darker toning between the 6 and star 13 and a shallow planchet flake on the rim left of star 6. LDS, Grellman state b. The repunching on the 18 is gone, the fields are flowlined, and there is a depression in the field over the inner part of the hair bun. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 79 1817 N-1 R4 VF25. Sharpness VF35 or slightly better but there are several rim nicks on both sides, the strongest one at the C in AMERICA. Attractive glossy tan and light brown blending with a few puffs of light chocolate on the reverse. Mint frost shows in some of the protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Very late die state. The die crack from the rim to the tip of the coronet passes through the head and reaches star 11. Graded net VF25 by Noyes, his photo #39782.
LOT 82 1817 N-3 R2 VF20. Ten points sharper but there is a light rim bruise at star 3, a dull dent hidden in the hair above ER, and a few fine scratches over the C in CENT. Glossy chocolate with flowline frost covering the protected areas on both sides. M-LDS with die clashmarks and the beginning stage of the “Mouse” break resting on top of the head below the left side of star 8 (looks more like a snake or die crack at this stage).
