LOT 57 1801 S-224 R1 PCGS AU Details, Smoothed. Attractive glossy chocolate and darker olive brown. Looks choice with great detail, but a glass reveals that both sides were lightly smoothed and expertly retoned. No idea why the cent was smoothed; it shows no trace of roughness or other problems that might have moved someone to alter the surfaces. The only marks are a few very light scratches on the forehead extending into the field and hair, all lost in the toning. EDS, Breen state I, before any crumbling in the dentils. Our grade is net VF25 . 1458.98/32958775
Ex Stack’s Bowers 11/16/2015:22032 (lot ticket included)
LOT 55 1800 S-210 R5+ Basal State-1. Sharper but rough and ugly with scratches and crud. Dull dark olive brown and steel. Probably dug out of soil. The date is gone and about half the legends are readable. What makes this cent interesting is the die state. Rare LDS, Breen state VII, with a well defined cud break at AME.
