1798 S-183 R5 Small 8, Style II Hair AG3 Sharper but corroded with old scratches at the date and in the obverse fields. Dull dark steel and olive brown. The date is weakened by the scratches but it is easily readable and the legends are complete. $200

1798 S-184 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair F15 Glossy olive and chocolate brown, the obverse a few shades lighter than the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and show only light contact marks including a fresh rim nick over the left side of the E in LIBERTY. M-LDS, Breen state II, with die chips at the serif of the 7. The date and legends are clear. $600

LOT 249 1798 S-185 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair F12 Rather glossy dark steel brown and chocolate with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The surfaces look smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals extremely faint granularity under the toning. No verdigris and only a few notable marks including a minor rim bruise off the chin, a nick near the dentils before the neck, and a few very old, light scratches on the reverse. Scarce LDS, Breen state VIII, with a strong cud break at IC in AMERICA in addition to the earlier die cracks. $500
