1798 S-176 R4 Small 8, Style II Hair VG8 Sharpness VF25 but dark and lightly corroded over most of the planchet; moderately corroded in the field behind the portrait. No verdigris. A shallow scrape on the rim opposite the neck is the only notable mark. MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on both sides. The date is bold and the legends are strong. $350

1798 S-177 R4+ Small 8, Style II Hair VG10 Glossy olive brown and steel. No verdigris or notable marks, but there is extremely fine granularity hidden under the glossy toning. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with all the cracks described by Breen. The date is bold and the legends are clear. Graded F15 net VG8 by Noyes, his photo #24161. $1,650
