LOT 217 1798 S-161 R2 Small 8, Style I Hair VG10 Sharpness VF20 but the obverse is covered with hairline scratches, strongest in the field behind the portrait. No corrosion but there is crud in protected areas. Rather glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. E-MDS, Breen state IV, with swelling at STA and die cracks on the reverse. The date and legends are all bold. In addition there is a minor curved planchet clip affecting only the dentils above S-O (as struck). $650

LOT 218

1798 S-162 R4 Small 8, Style I Hair F12 Sharpness VF25 but the left side of the reverse is corroded. No verdigris, and the rest of the planchet is reasonably smooth except for a bit of roughness tucked under the bust tip. A very light rim bruise at IB and another off the chin are the only notable contact marks. Mostly glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter brown on the devices. MDS, Breen state II, with bulges in the obverse fields. The date and legends are all strong.
