LOT 196 1798 S-146 R5- Large 8, Style I Hair F15 Sharpness VF25 or slightly better but both sides display myriad light contact marks that include hairline scratches. All the marks blend into the natural toning and are hidden somewhat by the fine die rust that covers much of the planchet. Glossy steel brown and light chocolate mixed with a hint of reddish chocolate brown. LDS, Breen state IV, with extensive fine die rust evident on both sides. Struck with the reverse slightly misaligned to K-3. Called VF20 net F15 by Bland and tied for CC#6 in his census. A decent example of a tough die variety. $1,500

LOT 197 1798 S-146 R5- Large 8, Style I Hair VG7 Slightly sharper but dark greenish olive and covered with a very thin patina. There is a thin scratch across the neck and traces of fine corrosion on both sides, strongest at AME. M-LDS with die rust evident on both sides. The date is strong and the legends are clear. $250
