S-259/S-260

LOT 355

1803 S-259 R4 Large Fraction VF20+ Ten points sharper but covered with microscopic porosity under attractive glossy olive brown and light chocolate toning. Lightly cleaned long ago but very nicely retoned. Looks very nice to the unaided eye. The only marks, and they are trivial, are a couple small nicks in the field before the neck, a tiny rim nick at IB in LIBERTY, and a planchet flake at the rim over the first S in STATES. EDS+, Breen state II early. The crack through STATE is very light and there is subtle swelling in the field left of the lower curls. Graded VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#10 in the Del Bland census. $1,950
