CLIPPED PLANCHET

LOT 194 1796 S-89 R3 Liberty Cap VG7 . Several points sharper but the rim has been rolled and the obverse was lightly burnished and retoned. The highpoints are smooth but very fine roughness shows in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris or notable marks. The date and legends are complete and strong, and this cent looks much better than the description might imply. EDS, Breen state I, before any crumbling on the profile. There is a curved planchet clip at the cap, as struck.

LOT 195 1796 S-90 R5+ Liberty Cap AG3 . A couple points sharper but covered with fine granularity. No verdigris and the only mark is a small nick left of the eye brow. Dull steel brown with reddish brown in protected areas. The date and LIBERTY are easily readable but much of the legend outside the wreath is weak or missing. A rare variety that seldom comes in grades better than Good. Struck with the reverse nearly upset, rotated 165 degrees CCW.

LOT 196 1796 S-91 R3 Liberty Cap ANACS graded VG8 . Mostly glossy chocolate brown and steel with lighter steel brown highpoints. Covered with extremely fine roughness on all but the highpoints. No verdigris and the only marks are a tiny rim bruise or nick off the right end of the wreath ribbon and two nicks at the E in ONE MDS. The date is strong and the legends are readable in spite of a couple weak letters on the reverse. Our grade is VG8 sharpness net G6+ . The attribution is noted on the ANACS label.
