EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 452 1822 N-7 R3+ VF25 . At least 5 points sharper but there are some contact marks including dull nicks on the neck, a very light scratch from star 1 to the neck, a short scratch under star 4, and several light marks around the C in CENT. Glossy light to medium chocolate and steel brown with smooth surfaces. E-MDS, Grellman state a. The leaf under CA is weak, as always, but the outline is still clear. Graded VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #27716.
LOT 454 1822 N-9 R5- NGC XF Details, Burnished . Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel. Lightly smoothed to minimize minor roughness, then retoned. The roughness remaining is minor, strongest at the top of the obverse and bottom of the reverse. There are traces of reddish verdigris at the dentils over star 7 and a few microscopic specks of greenish verdigris at the bottom of the reverse. E-MDS, Grellman state b early, with a very fine die crack through the top of TES (in addition to the earlier cracks on the reverse from the previous N-8 marriage). A sharp but imperfect example of this tough die variety. Our grade is VF35 sharpness net F15. Certification Number 4459613-009

The best identifying marks are a thin horizontal nick under the chin and a small diagonal nick on the right end of the line under CENT. MDS, Grellman state c early. The bisecting die crack from the dentil over the left side of the F in OF down through the ribbon end stops at the ribbon and does not reach the rim below. Our grade is VF30 . The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 36733.45/32847909

The fields are hard and the inner circle is sharp from star 1 to star 8.
