THE FAMOUS STARRED REVERSE

LOT 53 1794 S-48 Starred Reverse PCGS Good Detail, Environmental Damage . A couple points sharper, particularly on the obverse, but covered with fine to moderate roughness on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. No verdigris or notable marks, and the toning is an attractive, mostly glossy light to medium chocolate brown and steel. The date is weak but easily readable and at least half the tiny stars are visible in the dentils (all from K-5 to K-11.5, a result of the uneven strike always seen on this variety). Graded G5 net AG3 by Noyes, his photo #25811. Our grade is net AG3. One of the most difficult “Redbook” varieties to find in any grade, and the significant number of clearly visible stars on this one is a plus.
