FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS

LATE STATE “WHEELSPOKE”

LOT 35 1794 S-33 R6 Head of 1794, “Wheelspoke” Variety VG8 . A sharp cent with reasonably smooth highpoints, but the fields and protected areas are covered with fine to moderate roughness. No verdigris and the only notable contact mark is a very tiny rim nick under the fraction. Slightly glossy medium olive brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. The date and legends are complete and easily readable, even ONE CENT (which usually is partial or missing due to swelling in the center of the reverse). LDS, Breen state V, Heck 5, with 6 “Wheelspoke” cracks on the reverse. Graded VF20 net VG7 and tied for CC#7 in the Noyes census, his photo #26538. Not perfect but still a great example of this tough and very popular die variety.
