FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS

FINEST 1812 S-291 EX NAFTZGER

LOT 361 1812 S-291 R2 Small Date PCGS graded MS62 Brown . Beautiful glossy medium chocolate brown with frosty lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Traces of golden light tan faded down from mint color can be found in protected areas on the obverse and this cent has great eye appeal. Looks flawless to the unaided eye, but there is a light scrape on three dentils left of star 5 and a similar scrape just right of the eye. These marks are blended perfectly into the attractive toning and are easily missed. M-LDS, Breen state III, with flowlined fields and fine die cracks on the obverse, but the die chip at the right side of the 2 has not formed. Graded MS60 and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS62 Choice and CC#1, his photo #20043. This is the only mint state example listed in both census lists, and it is the finest example known to us in spite of the few marks. Our grade is MS60 sharpness net AU58. Plated to represent the die variety in the 1991 Noyes reference. 36502.62/61275959
