EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 288 1802 S-225 R3 PCGS graded AU53 . Very attractive glossy brown and light chocolate with frosty light brown and tan in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and there is just a light touch of friction on the highpoints. Would rate a higher grade but there is a nick on the jawline near the earlobe. Otherwise this cent is choice. E-MDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks and fine cracks but no cud break under the date. Graded AU50 by Del Bland. Our grade is EF45. 36290.53/61275970

Ex C. Douglas Smith 1953-Dorothy I. Paschal-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Paschal collection envelope)

LOT 289 1802 S-226 R3 PCGS graded AU58 . Choice frosty light to medium brown. Satiny mint luster shows in the fields and protected areas and this cent has superior eye appeal. Nearly flawless with very light friction on the highpoints and no notable marks. A subtle puff of slightly darker brown toning under the O in ONE is the best identifying mark. MDS, Breen state III, with a narrow rim cud under the date and fine die clashmarks on both sides, but the obverse is uncracked. Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to K-5. Our grade is AU50. 36293.58/61275971
