EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 265 1800 S-208 R3 VF25 . Sharpness EF45 with great color, no contact marks, and smooth surfaces except a dozen relatively pits of various sizes on the reverse. The obverse is a “WOW” coin, clearly the finest known of the die variety if the reverse was comparable. No verdigris, and the eye appeal of the reverse isn’t horrible. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with lighter brown in protected areas. Probably retoned long ago but the color is really nice. E-MDS, Breen state II early, with die failure at TY but the rim cud has not formed. The fields on both sides are smooth and slightly reflective, and there are fine die clashmarks on both sides, strongest on the obverse. Graded EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF20 and tied for CC#3, his photo #25814.

THE NAFTZGER-GERSON S-209
LOT 266 1800 S-209 R3 PCGS AU Detail, Altered Surfaces . Choice glossy chocolate and olive brown with slightly lighter brown in protected areas. Hints of mint frost show in protected areas and this cent has great eye appeal. Smooth with light wear on the devices and trivial marks. The notable marks are a tiny rim bruise at the Y, a small tick (might be a planchet flake) on the cheek, and another light rim bruise at the second S in STATES. MDS, Breen state V, with die clashmarks on both sides. There is a double profile on the upper lip and bottom edge of the jaw (from die shift or “machine doubling).” Graded EF40 and tied for CC#7 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#4, his photo #25870. Our grade is EF40+ . “Altered Surfaces”? You decide. Our grade is EF40+. Comes with a nice provenance. 36215.94/61468280
