EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

CONDITION CENSUS SHELDON-22 EX TURISSINI

LOT 22 1794 S-22 R1 Head of 1794 PCGS graded MS61 Brown . Frosty medium reddish brown. The fields and protected areas are lustrous and there is just a light touch of friction on the highest points of the hair. The only defects are a pair of small planchet flakes on the tip of the bust, another tiny one left of the O in OF, and a very light scuff along the tops of BER. A small spot of darker toning (not carbon) under the upright of the L in LIBERTY is a good identifying mark. MDS, Breen state V, with “mounds” forming at the top of the wreath and in the leaves below TE in UNITED. These “mounds” are not strong but the die clashmarks at the C in CENT are quite bold. Graded AU50 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes photo #62744. Our grade is AU50. Comes with a century-old provenance. 901374.61/25545344 Discovered in Europe-Thomas L.
